4 Must Know Electrical Problems with the Audi A4

For upwards of 20 years Audi has been producing the A4 sedan, which has been a staple of their lineup ever since. The first models, known to the manufacturer as the B5, were produced from 1994-2001, and these are still hugely popular and have great resale value. Like any car, after several years on the road, some problems do become apparent. The Audi A4 has had a few peculiar issues come up regarding the electrical system within the car. These don't only pertain the the early models, but some newer ones as well. If you are thinking about purchasing an A4 or currently own one be sure that it is not suffering from any of these common electrical problems.

Brake Lights Will Not Turn Off

A faulty brake switch is a common problem for early A4s which in the end requires replacing. The part is usually readily available to repair shops and the replacement can be often completed in only 20 minutes.

Center Control Spills

While this isn't of any fault to Audi, it is important to note that newer Audi A4s have an MMI unit, which controls the navigation, radio and other gadgets of the infotainment system, that is located right under the cupholders. Be sure to keep your lids on tight to prevent liquid from spilling onto the unit and burning it out, as it can be quite expensive to replace.

Dead Power Window Motor

Perhaps the most common electrical problem these cars suffer from is a burnt out power window motor. Most often the driver's side will burn out first, as it is the window that is most often used. Fixing this issue is fairly simple as it just requires replacing the motor inside the door panel.

Burnt Out Display Screen

The display screens for the navigation and other infotainment of A4s equipped with such amenities have been known to burn out, making it difficult to read. In order to fix the problem the screen generally needs to be replaced.
